Annual Beach Clean ( Benissa )
More than 70 divers took part in this years Benissa Beach Clean to help clean the local coastline. The annual event takes place every September, based in the port of Les Basetes. Eight boats left the port on Sunday morning to collect as much rubbish as possible, following on from last year we found more of the sunken boat which made up a large portion of the rubbish collected. Following the dive a free lunch and T-shirt is provided for the participants by a collaboration of the town hall and local sponsoring businesses.

Sunfish Season at the Peñon de Ifach
Over the last week and a half we have spotted Sunfish on no less than 5 dives, our first sighting of them came on the 9th of June when we saw four sunfish on a cleaning station at 14 metres followed by two others on separate occasions but the best dive with them to date on the 10th of June when we were diving at Flat Rock and managed to get within 1 metre of six sunfish measuring between 2 and 3 feet across at a cleaning station at 18 metres. The sunfish paid very little attention to our presence and let us spend about ten minutes with them before they left. We have also spotted a much larger sunfish on a couple of occasions on the surface around the Peñon de Ifach when travelling to the dive sites.
20th May 2005 Elephant Rock
First trip to Pulpo Island and Elephant Cave of 2005
These two dive sites never fail to impress divers. On our first trip to Pulpo Island this year we were amazed with the variety of life that was there, with lots of scorpionfish, octopus, moray eels, barracuda, lobsters, nudibranchs and even a fly by with a torpedo ray. Our first dive of the year to Elephant Cave was also very nice, with the insides of the cave covered with small shrimps and a very nice slipper lobster. For more information about these dives or any of our other dives take a look at our dive sites page or contact us by e mail

Local Centres work with Town Hall to Sink Wreck
The dive centres of Calpe are currently working closely with the Town Hall to promote the diving in the area. Plans include placing moorings at the most popular dive sites to protect the environment and obtaining a boat from the military to sink as a wreck for the area. This is an ongoing project and the dive centre will be involved along the way - watch this space for more news.

Benissa Beach Clean
This years annual Benissa beach clean saw 65 divers collect over 100kg of rubbish from the sea along Benissa's coastline. Although this sounds like a lot of rubbish, a very large proportion was made up of two large pieces of a boat that was broken up in one of the bays along the coast.
